ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

Bridging Genomics & Pathology for Precision Medicine
The conference on “Bridging Genomics & Pathology for Precision Medicine” brings together leading minds in molecular biology, pathology, and clinical oncology to explore the transformative potential of genomics in cancer diagnostics and therapeutics. This event features a curated selection of sessions that highlight the transformative impact of genomic technologies in precision oncology. Topics will range from the molecular biology of cancer to leveraging long-read sequencing, clinical translation of next-generation sequencing, insights into cutting-edge techniques such as liquid biopsy testing, the rationale and timing of whole genome sequencing, and the latest advances in cytogenetics and molecular genomics of leukemia, finally a focused session on flow cytometry in leukemia to address its clinical utility and current challenges. It is an essential platform for clinicians, researchers, and students across disciplines to inspire collaboration, accelerate translational research, and enhance patient care through the integration of genomics and pathology.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF PATHOLOGY

Department of Pathology envisions to excel in medical education, diagnostics-based research and addressing the needs of the accurate diagnosis for efficient patient management. Our diagnostic center provide quality diagnostic service in hematology, clinical pathology, blood bank services, cytology and histopathology. Central Laboratory functions round the clock performing hematology and clinical pathology tests. Our central laboratory is equipped with machines calibrated with international standards. We regularly practice internal quality control to ensure the quality standards. We also regularly participate the External quality control programmes offered by various premier institute like AIIMS, CMC, SRC-JIPMER to improve the continuous quality improvement. Our cytopathology and histopathology laboratories render services including fine needle aspiration cytology, pap smear examination, fluid cytology, histopathological examination, special staining techniques, bone marrow study, I mmunocytochemistry immunohistochemistry and molecular studies. We have a state-of-the-art cryostat machine for intraoperative frozen section examination.

The department of Pathology is headed by experienced pathologists, young and vibrant faculty are actively involved in diagnostic work, curriculum development and research activity. Several intramural, extramural and ICMR funded ongoing research activities are carried out under the guides of senior professors.

We aimed at bringing out the best knowledge professionals and motivating our undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, nursing, physiotherapy and allied health science students to excel in their academics. Well-equipped departmental library with various reference books for undergraduate and postgraduate. Remote access to indexed journals and clinical key by Elsevier Sciences for students and faculties. The department has a well-organized QR coded museum displaying 500 neatly mounted surgical specimens with relevant details and multiple copies of catalogs. The department has a separate YouTube channel (DIGIPATH-2020) with manifold in-house prepared educational videos, 110K views, 1.16K subscribers and aims to impart quality knowledge in pathology to medical students and residents.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF MEDICAL BIOTECHNOLOGY

The Department of Medical Biotechnology (DMBT), under the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies at AVMC& H- VMRF Puducherry campus, is a centre of excellence that bridges biology, medicine, and technology to advance healthcare through research, innovation, and education. The department is committed to the exploration, design, and development of biomarkers, diagnostic kits, and drug candidates for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of various diseases.

Faculty members are actively engaged in several cutting-edge research areas, including:

  • Multi-omics approaches, including genomics, proteomics, transcriptomic,  metabolomics, and immuno-omics are employed to unravel the complex  mechanisms underlying various diseases.
  • Diagnostic design for infectious diseases
  • Stem cell technology and regenerative medicine for tissue repair and chronic wounds
  • Nanobiotechnology for targeted drug delivery and cancer diagnosis
  • Computational therapeutics focuses on the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) tools/algorithms that assist in treating large patient populations and support the move toward personalized medicine.

The mission of DMBT is to provide high-quality education and research training to students from diverse biological and medical backgrounds. The department offers four years B.Sc. (Hon.), two-years M.Sc., and Ph.D. programs with AVMCH-VMRF research fellowship in Medical Biotechnology, all designed to provide a strong foundation through comprehensive coursework, hands-on laboratory training, and independent research projects. Active research is an integral part of the academic life of its undergraduate and postgraduate students who are equipped with in-depth knowledge and practical training in the field. Graduates of the department are competently-skilled for careers in biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, research institutions, hospitals and diagnostic centres, academia, and clinical research organizations.
